Conférence Interafricaine des Marchés d' Assurances (CIMA)

est. July 10, 1992

The conference Interafricaine des Marchés d’Assurance (CIMA) is the insurance sector regulator for fourteen (14) African countries all of which are francophone but Guinea-Bissau. Its ambition is to create a wider and healthier insurance market, as a first step towards the establishment of a single insurance market. To achieve this goal, it relies upon a single set of laws and a single oversight authority to which all of the fourteen (14) Member States have transferred nearly all of their powers.

The main objectives of the CIMA are to:

  • Create conditions conducive to the healthy and balanced development of insurance companies
  • Foster investment in the economy of their country or the region through insurance and reinsurance operations
  • Foster the creation of a broader and more integrated market under the most favorable technical conditions for insurance
  • Train managers and technicians in insurance
