African and Middle East Deposit Association (AMEDA)

OVERVIEW

AMEDA is a non-profit trade organization established in April 27 2005, as an elective, inter-professional and regional facility. AMEDA’s membership includes central securities depositories, clearing and settlement agencies and central registrars from 20 African countries

OBJECTIVES

AMEDA’s main purpose is to be a forum for the exchange of information and experience among its members in a spirit of mutual cooperation and to promote best practice in services such as securities depository, clearance, settlement, and risk management.

AMEDA also aims to support members in their efforts to adopt international securities market regulations, while considering their specific circumstances and to serve as a channel of dialogue with other organizations worldwide

AMEDA’s activities include:

  • Strengthening the community of members by facilitating contacts among them and their representatives
  • Supporting member leadership in hosting forums, forming working groups, reporting on topics of interest, improving standards and practices, sourcing technical expertise
  • Organizing and administering the optional pooling of resources, when driven by the common or specific interests of members
  • Encourage and assist in sharing experiences, information and processes through meetings, training programmes and publications
  • Promoting collaboration on projects of mutual benefit or importance, including assisting members with regulatory and other market entities in their respective markets
  • Advocating for member interests by participating in relevant events, representing common views when solicited, and expressing member support to interested parties, as deemed appropriate
  • Facilitating awareness of relevant current information and events, and the activities of the association and its members, by providing simple central access to such information
  • Liaising with other international groups and organizations in promoting the transparency of the member’s activities through the provision of information and data
