Appropriate Warehousing and Collateral Management Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa
By Jonathan N. Agwe, PhD, Senior Technical Specialist, IFAD

In recent years, there has been much effort by governments of developing countries (supported by their development partners) to extend the use of warehouse receipt finance (WRF) to national agricultural value chains. An investigation in nine Sub-Saharan African countries identified four types of wharehouse receipt systems for smallholder farmers. This blog is adapted from the AFD/CTA/IFAD-PARM co-publication on warehouse receipt finance in Africa presented on December 2, 2015, during a webinar organised by MFW4A and IFAD/PARM.
