Inaugural Meeting of the Community of African Banking Supervisors

09.01.2013 - 10.01.2013, Algiers, Algeria

“Strengthening Cross-Banking Supervision and Cooperation in Africa”

Following the final endorsement of the establishment of the Community of African Banking Supervisors (CABS) by the Assembly of Governors of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB) at their ordinary meeting on August 30th  2012 in Algiers, the Secretariat of Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A) and the AACB have convened the Inaugural CABS meeting on 09th-10th January in Algiers. The meeting is hosted by the Bank of Algeria.

The CABS shall become the instrument for maintaining and deepening the dialogue with and among African banking supervisors and regional supervisory platforms. It will also spearhead the articulation of an African perspective on international banking regulatory and supervisory issues.

The meeting will also revisit and emphasize the “building blocks” approach in implementing regulatory and supervisory reforms in Africa and devise an organizational structure and future activities for the CABS.
