Income Group: Low Income

Burundi’s financial sector is at a level of development in line with the regional average and slightly larger in size than that of other countries in the low-income group. Openness and diversity are limited.

Based on a cross-regional comparison, bank credit to deposit ratios are higher than for other low income countries within and without the region, but private sector credit levels remain below both regional and income-group averages.
